From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
