The star has handed over the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the UK's grassroots live music spots.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The money helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that funds from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

When the band won the award in the year 1996 for their album their work, frontman the singer stated that the act would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her prize among several charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," she told a publication.

In recent years, the band donated their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And winners that year M People gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had protected several local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
